The Medical Director, El- Dorado Multi-Specialist Hospital, Awka, Professor Chiemelu Emegoakor has urged the federal government to make serious efforts to rejig the health sector to ameliorate the brain drain of medical practitioners to overseas for greener pastures.
Prof. Emegoakor spoke to the press in Awka following the recently concluded Annual General Meeting/Scientific Conference of the Anambra State Nigerian Medical Association which has as it’s main theme, “From Drain To Gain: Strategies For Building Nigerian Health Workforce Capacity’
According to the medical expert, issues of insecurity and poor economy need to be addressed to fast track the return of health practitioners to their father land.
He firmly believed that a society where the security of the citizenry are guaranteed and the economy buoyant will occasion a convivial atmosphere for both the health practitioners and their patients to practice and receive adequate health care service delivery.
Prof. Emegoakor used the forum to felicitate with the governor’s wife Dr. Nonye Soludo, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and the former acting Vice Chancellor of Unizik, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu for bagging awards from the state NMA given their vast contributions in the area of health in the state and beyond.
