The Anambra State Government has commenced earthwork and piling operations on the Umueze–Oroma-Etiti–Umuenwelum federal road in Anambra West Local Government Area, a major intervention by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to address the long-neglected condition of the vital federal road.
During an inspection visit to the construction site, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving rural connectivity and infrastructure across the state.
He noted that ongoing work, handled by New Idea Construction Company Limited, covers extensive earthwork and piling from Umueze Anam through Oroma-Etiti to Umuenwelum Anam. According to project specifications, the road is being constructed with a 300mm thickness, ensuring durability and long-term service.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne acknowledged the hardship faced by residents and commuters over the years due to the road’s poor state, emphasizing that Governor Soludo has taken decisive steps to end the suffering and restore access for the local communities.
“This intervention demonstrates that Governor Soludo listens and responds. He is committed to transforming infrastructure in every part of Anambra State,” Commissioner said.
He further highlighted previous road interventions in the area, noting that both the state government and local stakeholders have consistently supported development efforts since 2022.
The initiative reflects a growing trend across Nigeria, where state governments take on the rehabilitation of federal roads within their territories due to the federal government’s limited maintenance capacity.
For Anambra West, however, this project represents hope restored, and another step toward the Soludo administration’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland.
