The Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, has reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to delivering improved services to Ndi Anambra by 2026.

He said the three major Departments under the ministry; Power, Water, and Fire Service are undergoing significant transformation to better meet the needs of residents.

Engr. Chukwuemeka made this known while addressing newsmen shortly after the Ministry of Power and Water Resources defended its budget at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Awka.

Speaking during the interview, the commissioner commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for assembling a competent team for the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC), noting that the commission has recorded remarkable achievements within a short period of its inauguration.

According to him, ASERC is mandated to regulate all activities within the electricity value chain across Anambra State.

He further said that the 2026 budget includes provisions for extending electricity to communities that have never been connected to the national grid.

“More than eight communities that have remained unconnected since the creation of Anambra State have been captured in this budget and will be linked to the grid by 2026,” he said.

Engr. Chukwuemeka also highlighted the state government’s vision for developing new urban areas, including Awka 2.0 and the Greater Niger City project around Onitsha metropolis. He said the 2026 budget adequately provides for stable power supply to these emerging cities.

On water supply, the commissioner noted that water has begun flowing again in major parts of the state. He added that the 2026 budget makes further provisions to expand access to clean, affordable, and potable water for more residents.

In the area of fire service delivery, he praised fire service personnel for their improved response time and enhanced efficiency, emphasizing that the fire service has recorded significant progress under Governor Soludo’s administration and assured that more improvement will be seen in 2026.
