The streets of Amawbia came alive on December 30th, as residents and friends of the community gathered in their numbers for the much-anticipated 6th Edition of the Amawbia Walk, an annual endurance trek that continues to grow in strength and popularity.

This year’s edition, proudly sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye, was more than just a fitness walk; it was a vibrant celebration of community spirit, healthy living, and cultural unity.

Kicking off at the Central Primary School Field, Aguogba, the trek saw enthusiastic participation from people of all ages—elders, youth, women, and children, all dressed in colourful outfits and matching energy. The scenic route was carefully mapped to highlight Amawbia’s beautiful landscapes while offering a refreshing and invigorating workout.

Rt. Hon. Okoye, a strong advocate of wellness and community development, emphasized the importance of regular exercise in maintaining mental and physical well-being. His continued sponsorship of the walk underlines his dedication not just to legislative duties, but to grassroots initiatives that impact lives directly.

The President General of Amawbia community Nze Chukwukadibia Odumodu, in an interview said, “The Amawbia Walk 2025 wasn’t just about fitness, it was a showcase of unity, peace, and pride in identity. Participants walked in joy, bonded over laughter, and danced to live music at the finish point, where refreshments and commemorative items were shared.

“Indeed, the event reminded all present of the age-old truth: a healthy community is a happy community. As the sun set on a memorable day, one thing was clear—Amawbia Walk 2025 was a resounding success, and the legacy of health, togetherness, and resilience continues”.

Speaking after the successful 6th edition of the Amawbia Walk, Sir Ebele Nwufo, President General Emeritus of Amawbia Town Union, expressed deep satisfaction with the event, describing it as fabulous and extraordinary.

“We didn’t expect to see such a massive turnout from Amawbia residents alone. It was a wonderful outing, a great way to bring our youths together, socially and otherwise. It allowed many to reconnect and meet faces they haven’t seen in a long time. This walk went beyond fitness—it was a unifying force.”

He commended the sponsor, Rt. Hon. Okoye, for his unwavering support. “He deserves all the kudos. Indirectly, this initiative is sowing seeds for greater things ahead.”

Sir Nwufo, who also participated in the walk, noted with excitement how he trekked the full route-from Central School through Amawbia Prisons, Ngene-Ukwa, Numac and Dan-Mark Hotels, Umueze, and back to the starting point. “It’s an experience worth having. People need to come out and feel the spirit of Amawbia,” he urged.

Speaking on the newly elected king, he said: “We thank God for the peaceful emergence of a king-elect. Very soon, we’ll move to formalize and present him to the government. I believe he will do well because it is the will of God.”

Addressing the age-old notion that “Anara azo eze azo”(you don’t contest for kingship), Sir Nwufo clarified: “While that may be the traditional belief, in a democratic system guided by constitution, once someone emerges through due process, it shows that indeed, kingship can be contested, respectfully and constitutionally.”

He called for unity, support for the new Igwe-elect, and gratitude to God for the continuous growth and peace in Amawbia.
