‎The Anambra State Police Command has taken custody of a 29-year-old female suspect, Mrs. Edeh Osinachi, handed over by the Anambra State Ministry of Education, for allegedly physically abusing a 17-year-old girl, her house help, in Awka.

‎According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident came to light when school officials noticed severe injuries on the victim’s body during a teaching session and initiated an inquiry.

‎Upon interrogation, the victim said that the injuries were a result of punitive measures administered by her guardian, Mrs. Osinachi, due to her unauthorized use of the guardian’s phone. It is alleged that Mrs. Osinachi utilized a hot iron as a means of discipline.

‎The suspect has reportedly confessed to the act during police interrogation. The Police Command commends the school authorities for their vigilance and assures the public of a thorough investigation, with justice to be served accordingly.

‎The Command also urges parents to have children they can adequately care for, to prevent vulnerability to abuse while in the care of others.
