‎The recent increase in fuel prices has had a significant impact on the residents and businesses in Onitsha, with many struggling to cope with the rising costs. Magazine Road, a usually bustling thoroughfare linking 3:3 and Nkwelle, was noticeably quiet today, reflecting the challenges faced by motorists and traders.
‎
‎Commercial motorist, Mr Ikechukwu Okafor lamented the effect of the price hike on his livelihood, stating that the increase in transport fares has led to a drastic decline in daily earnings. Similarly, trader Ebere Obi noted that the rising fuel costs have eroded her profit margins, as she now spends more on fuel to keep her business running.
‎
‎A Local Leader, Obilaw Agwuenu, expressed concern over the cumulative impact of the fuel price increase and the unreliable power supply. He noted that the frequent power outages have necessitated a reliance on generators, resulting in increased fuel consumption and exacerbating the financial strain on households and businesses.
‎
‎Residents therefore calls for urgent measures to alleviate the burden, as the fuel price hike continues to affect transportation, businesses, and daily living in Onitsha.
