‎The Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to establish fully equipped fire service stations and strengthen personnel training across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state to address the rising incidence of fire outbreaks.
‎
‎The resolution followed a motion sponsored by the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Hon. Ebuka Igwe, during plenary and supported by several lawmakers.
‎
‎Presenting the motion, Hon. Igwe expressed concern over the recurring fire disasters recorded in different parts of the state, particularly recent midnight infernos that ravaged markets, residential buildings, and business premises, destroying properties worth millions of naira. He observed that effective fire prevention and emergency response require modern firefighting equipment, well-trained personnel, functional fire stations, and strategic deployment of resources across urban and rural communities.
‎

‎The lawmaker noted that the current operational capacity of the state fire service may be insufficient to adequately cover all areas of Anambra, especially remote and densely populated communities where delayed response times often worsen the impact of fire incidents.
‎
‎According to him, establishing fire service stations or emergency response points in all 21 Local Government Areas, alongside sustained personnel training and the provision of modern firefighting equipment, would significantly reduce the loss of lives and property during fire emergencies. The motion received overwhelming support from members of the Assembly. The member representing Anambra West Constituency, Hon. Patrick Udoba, who seconded the motion, emphasized the need for proactive measures to safeguard communities from fire disasters.
‎
‎Also contributing, the member representing Nnewi South I Constituency, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu, and his counterpart from Ihiala II Constituency, Hon. Golden Iloh, underscored the importance of strengthening emergency preparedness mechanisms to protect lives and property across the state.
‎
‎In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Barr. Somtochukwu Udeze, commended Hon. Igwe for bringing forward the motion, describing it as timely, people-oriented, and crucial to enhancing public safety in Anambra State.
‎
‎The Speaker noted that improving firefighting infrastructure and emergency response capabilities remains essential to mitigating the devastating effects of fire outbreaks and ensuring the protection of residents and their investments across the state.
