The Faculty of Law Students’ Association (LAWSA) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has established an Environmental Sustainability Committee to drive the institution’s “Pick It… Don’t Litter” campaign within the Faculty of Law.
The committee was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Kate Omenugha, during the 23rd Annual LAWSA Dinner held at the Hollywood Event Centre.
Speaking at the event, Omenugha described the initiative as a demonstration of leadership and collective responsibility, expressing confidence that it would strengthen environmental consciousness and encourage responsible waste disposal among students.
She said the annual Law Dinner remains an integral part of legal education, exposing students to the etiquette, ethics and professional conduct expected of legal practitioners, while urging them to uphold discipline, integrity and excellence throughout their careers.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the university’s zero tolerance policy on examination malpractice, environmental abuse and other forms of misconduct, warning that any student found guilty of littering the campus would face a one year suspension in line with Senate approved regulations.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of a portrait bearing the inscription, “Pick It… Don’t Litter; Noli Sordes Facere,” by LAWSA President, Comrade Chukwuemeka Okeke, in recognition of Omenugha’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Omenugha commended the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Okorie, the LAWSA executive and the organizing committee for supporting the initiative.
She expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated committee would deepen environmental responsibility within the faculty and further advance the university’s guiding philosophy of Values, Viability and Visibility (3Vs).
