The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of the institution’s security personnel through enhanced support and the provision of essential working tools.
Dr. Awuzie gave the assurance on July 7 after receiving a guard of honour mounted by members of the Polytechnic’s security unit in front of the administrative building as a mark of appreciation for her dedication to their welfare.
Responding to the gesture, the Rector thanked the Chief Security Officer, Khaki Abdulahi David, and the entire security team, describing the honour as both humbling and inspiring. She said the recognition would encourage her administration to continue prioritising the needs of the security unit.

She praised the officers for their commitment and professionalism, particularly in maintaining the safety of lives and property while sections of the institution’s perimeter fence were temporarily opened due to ongoing road construction.
The rector also announced that officials from TETFund were expected at the Polytechnic within the week to begin the installation of an alternative power source. She explained that the project would improve lighting across the institution’s campuses, strengthen security, and contribute to reducing criminal activities.
Earlier, the Chief Security Officer, Khaki Abdulahi David, said the guard of honour was organised to acknowledge Dr. Awuzie’s visionary leadership and her consistent efforts toward improving the welfare of security personnel.
He noted that the administration had resolved the long-standing challenge of delayed salary payments and had commenced the clearance of salary arrears inherited from the previous administration, with two months of outstanding arrears paid in the previous week.
He further disclosed that the rector had built new security posts at the Polytechnic’s Permanent Site and Ufuma Campus and facilitated the recruitment of additional security personnel during the institution’s recent employment exercise. The event was attended by principal officers and members of the Polytechnic’s management team.
