The Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Onitsha, Dr. Mercy Anugwu, on July 7, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) in Awka to reinforce the partnership between both institutions and formally notify the Agency of the hospital’s proposed renovation of its Female Medical Ward.
During the visit, Dr. Anugwu congratulated the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, on his appointment, describing it as well deserved and a reflection of his diligence, humility and commitment to service.
The Medical Director expressed appreciation to ASHIA for its consistent support to the hospital, particularly in addressing key infrastructural needs.
She recalled that the Agency’s earlier intervention led to the successful renovation of the hospital’s Dental Department, an initiative that has significantly enhanced healthcare service delivery.
She further disclosed that the hospital intends to deploy funds generated through the ASHIA programme to renovate its Female Medical Ward. According to her, the project is aimed at providing a more comfortable and patient-friendly environment while improving the quality of medical care.
In his response, the Executive Secretary/CEO of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, thanked the management of FMC Onitsha for the courtesy visit and for formally notifying the Agency of the proposed project.
He described the Federal Medical Centre as a vital healthcare institution in the state and reaffirmed ASHIA’s commitment to supporting its efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
Dr. Ezeka also encouraged the hospital’s management to sustain the provision of quality and affordable healthcare services to ASHIA enrollees, stressing that excellent patient care remains critical to advancing universal health coverage in Anambra State.
