Residents of Odume, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, actively participated in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining clean surroundings and supporting Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s environmental sustainability agenda.

The sanitation exercise commenced at 7:00 a.m. as residents cleaned residential compounds, drainage channels and surrounding environments, demonstrating a collective resolve to promote healthy living through proper environmental hygiene and community participation.

Chairman of one residential compound, Mr. Emeka Pius, stated that residents cleaned their environment primarily for their own wellbeing, stressing that environmental sanitation benefits individuals, families and the entire community, not government alone.

Mr. Pius explained that the compound had consistently observed routine environmental sanitation before the State Government introduced the compulsory monthly exercise, describing the initiative as a commendable policy deserving continuous public support and emulation.

A resident, Mr. Ethelbert Nnolum, commended Governor Soludo for institutionalising the monthly sanitation exercise, noting that the policy has inspired greater community participation and encouraged residents to keep their surroundings consistently clean.

According to Mr. Nnolum, the government’s directive has motivated many residents to clear blocked drainage channels and maintain healthier environments, actions that might otherwise have been neglected without the structured monthly sanitation programme.

Another resident, Mr. Tochukwu Ukonu, described regular environmental sanitation as essential for healthy living, urging citizens to cultivate personal responsibility by maintaining clean homes and surroundings without waiting for official reminders.

Mr. Ukonu further encouraged residents to embrace cleanliness as a civic responsibility, emphasizing that sustained environmental sanitation would reduce health risks, improve public safety and contribute meaningfully to Anambra State’s developmental aspirations.

Residents reaffirmed their readiness to sustain the monthly sanitation culture and pledged continued support for Governor Soludo’s efforts toward building a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible Anambra State for present and future generations.
