‎The Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council, Chijioke Ozumba, Esq., has urged women in Umudioka to use the 2026 August Meeting as a platform to promote quality education, environmental sanitation, community security and responsible parenting. Ozumba, popularly known as Ifezulumba Dunukofia, gave the charge on August 12, when he joined women from the ten villages of Umudioka at their 2026 Women’s August Meeting.
‎

‎The gathering featured prayers, deliberations, entertainment and empowerment activities, with discussions focused on issues affecting families and the wider community. The Mayor commended the women for their consistency, resilience and contributions to the development of Dunukofia, describing the August Meeting as more than a cultural gathering.
‎
‎He said the annual event provides an important opportunity for mothers, community leaders and other stakeholders to identify challenges confronting families and collectively develop practical solutions. Ozumba particularly urged mothers to prioritise the education of their children, with special attention to the girl-child, stressing that the future of Dunukofia depends largely on how children are trained and guided today.
‎

‎He also called for responsible parenting and discipline, noting that good values and respect for others begin at home.
‎“Discipline, good values and respect begin from home. When we raise children who know right from wrong, we are securing our communities and making Dunukofia safer for everyone,” he said.
‎On environmental sanitation, the Mayor urged the women to make cleanliness a central component of this year’s August Meeting activities.
‎
‎He encouraged households, churches and organisations to keep their premises and meeting venues clean, provide waste bins and ensure that refuse is properly bagged and disposed of at designated collection points.
‎

‎Ozumba warned against dumping refuse in drainages and along roadsides, noting that such practices contribute to flooding, erosion and damage to roads and other public infrastructure. “The protection of our environment is a collective responsibility. The government will continue to support you through the LGA Waste Management Team, but we need everyone to play their part,” he said.
‎
‎The Mayor further stressed that community security begins with responsible homes and families. He urged mothers to monitor the company their children keep and instil strong moral values in them.
‎
‎He also called on traditional, community and church leaders to use the August Meeting as an avenue to strengthen neighbourhood watch and community policing efforts in Umudioka and other parts of Dunukofia. Ozumba reaffirmed the commitment of the Dunukofia Local Government Council to initiatives that promote the welfare, education and security of residents, as well as sustainable community development.
‎
‎He assured the women that properly channelled requests from the Umudioka community would receive due attention within the available resources of the council. The 2026 Umudioka Women’s August Meeting ended with a renewed call for collective responsibility in building safer, cleaner and more prosperous communities.
