Residents and commuters in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area(LGA), have expressed relief following the flag-off of the reconstruction of the Umunze Roundabout–Zenith Bank Road by the LGA Mayor, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, on Sept. 9.
The project is expected to ease movement, improve road safety and enhance accessibility for motorists, commuters and residents who use the Umunze Roundabout–Zenith Bank Road.
Speaking with journalists at the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Azubuike said the project was part of his administration’s commitment to addressing priority infrastructure needs and delivering projects that directly benefit residents.
He said the intervention aligns with the Anambra State Government’s infrastructure development agenda under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, particularly its focus on improving road infrastructure and connectivity across communities.
According to the mayor, the reconstruction of the Umunze Roundabout–Zenith Bank Road will include an improved drainage system to control stormwater, reduce waterlogging and minimise the risk of flooding and premature deterioration.
He disclosed that the project would be implemented in phases, with a second phase planned to extend the improvement towards Lomu Village.
Hon. Azubuike announced plans to install solar-powered streetlights along the Umunze Roundabout–Zenith Bank Road upon completion, noting that the lighting would improve visibility at night, enhance road safety and contribute to security in the area.
The mayor commended Governor Soludo for prioritising infrastructure development, pledging to sustain efforts aimed at improving essential facilities and the welfare of residents in Orumba South.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure and member representing Orumba South Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Nwafor, commended the mayor for the intervention.
Hon. Nwafor, who expressed satisfaction with the project, urging residents to support development initiatives by the local and state governments.
The reconstruction of the Umunze Roundabout–Zenith Bank Road is expected to provide a safer and more durable route, ease daily transportation and support economic activities in Umunze and surrounding communities.
