‎The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders and expanding its intelligence-gathering network to enhance security and public safety across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, made this known on Sept. 9, when he received separate courtesy visits from the Nigeria Legion (Military Veterans) and the Nigeria Forest Security Services at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
‎

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the commissioner emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in improving the command’s capacity to prevent crime, detect threats early and respond effectively to emerging security challenges. While receiving the delegation of the Nigeria Legion, CP Oji Ama acknowledged the wealth of experience, discipline and security-related knowledge possessed by military veterans as a result of their years of service to the nation.

He noted that the veterans’ understanding of security matters, coupled with their extensive connections within various communities, could provide valuable support to the Police in crime prevention, early threat detection and the promotion of public safety.

‎Similarly, during the visit by members of the Nigeria Forest Security Services, the commissioner highlighted the critical role of human intelligence, otherwise known as HUMINT, in modern policing. ‎He explained that individuals and organisations with operational presence in communities, forests and other remote areas are strategically positioned to observe developments that may have security implications.

According to him, credible and timely information from such stakeholders could strengthen the Police Command’s situational awareness, support preventive measures and facilitate prompt intervention before security threats escalate.
‎

CP Oji Ama urged both organisations to sustain regular communication with the police and ensure that relevant information concerning suspicious activities or emerging threats is promptly shared with the appropriate authorities. He stressed that effective security requires collective responsibility and is best achieved when legitimate stakeholders work closely with law-enforcement agencies in accordance with the law.

‎The commissioner assured the visiting delegations that the command remained open to lawful partnerships and continuous engagement with communities, professional organisations, veterans’ groups and other legitimate security-support structures. He said such partnerships would help broaden the command’s intelligence network and further strengthen its capacity for proactive policing across the state.

‎CP Oji Ama reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led, proactive and community-oriented policing, assuring residents that the Police would continue to employ every lawful means of collaboration to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and protect lives and property in Anambra. The separate visits featured exchange of pleasantries, presentation of plaques and group photographs, among other engagements.
