As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) launches its Continuous Voter Registration exercise, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, has issued a rallying cry to young residents: secure your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and claim your voice in Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking at the LGA headquarters, Mayor Nwora emphasized that the PVC is “more than a card. It’s a key to participation, empowerment, and accountability.” He reminded attendees that active voter registration strengthens community development and ensures leaders remain responsive to the needs of the people.
“Our youth represent the promise of tomorrow. By registering today, you plant the seeds for the progress you wish to see in Onitsha North and beyond.” He urged parents, teachers, and community elders to support the drive and accompany first‑time registrants to INEC centres.
The Continuous Voter Registration allows citizens who turned 18 since the last exercise, those who lost their PVCs, and individuals seeking transfers to update their electoral status. Mayor Nwora underlined that participation is both a right and a responsibility, one that “fortifies the democratic fabric of our nation”.
He reaffirmed his commitment to youth engagement and good governance. “My administration will continue to champion initiatives that involve our young people in decision‑making. Register your PVC, exercise your franchise, and let’s build a brighter future for Onitsha North”.
With INEC offices now open, residents are encouraged to visit designated registration centres, bring a valid means of identification, and be part of the electoral process that shapes leadership at local and national levels.
