The Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA) has embarked on a two-day study tour of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) to gain insight into its operations and best practices.
Leading the delegation, AKSHIA’s Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Hannah Nta, expressed appreciation for ASHIA’s warm reception and openness to knowledge sharing. She explained that the visit aimed to assess ASHIA’s departmental structures, resource management strategies, and service delivery processes to enhance the effectiveness of health insurance in Akwa Ibom State.

Welcoming the team, ASHIA’s Managing Director, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, assured them of an engaging and practical learning experience covering key aspects such as health insurance administration, claims management, and the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF). He noted that ASHIA had hosted similar study visits from over 14 states due to its success in health insurance implementation.
Dr. Onyemaechi provided an overview of global and national health insurance frameworks, highlighting the roles of key institutions like the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA). He emphasized that the study tour would go beyond theory, incorporating hands-on sessions and field visits to healthcare providers for firsthand experience of the system in action.
The knowledge gained from the visit is expected to help AKSHIA refine its health insurance strategies, ultimately improving healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom State.
