The Reformed Obosi Electricity Restoration Committee headed by Comrade Humphrey Okoye has swung into action to identify the causes of erratic electricity supply in the ancient Obosi Kingdom in Anambra State and proffer lasting solutions to them.

The Obosi town electricity initiative is harmonious with the town’s developmental ideology, which is hinged on using communal initiatives and efforts as well as the constitution of special committees in solving the town’s multifarious problems.

The Reformed Obosi Electricity Restoration Committee was constituted by the President General of the Obosi Development Union, Mr. Chimezie Obi, and given a clear mandate to spot the causes of epileptic electricity supply in Obosi and provide solutions to them.

The Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Humphrey Okoye, listed the EEDC’s mode of distribution of electricity bills, which excludes a large segment of the demographic of electricity users in Obosi, as one of the causes of irregular supply of electricity in the town.

The committee’s ongoing enumeration of electricity users in the town revealed that forty something houses out of 180 houses which are supplied electricity from Mgbede transformer in Ugamuma quarters, Obosi do not receive electricity bills for the payment of energy they consumed in each out-gone month.

That ugly situation which is replicated in other areas of the town is at the root of some people’s evasion of payment of money for the electricity they consumed in each past month.

Comrade Okoye stated that the people’s evasion of payment of electricity bills causes the generation of meagre sums of money for EEDC in Obosi, the consequence of which is the epileptic electric supply in the town.

He gave the advice that each house in the town ought to have its own meter while insisting that every transformer should have correct metering to ensure that users of a particular transformer are given bills that are commensurate with the electricity they have consumed in a month.

More so, he considered it unjust for users of a particular transformer to bear the cost of repairing it when it breaks down while EEDC’s sole duty is the collection of payment for consumed energy from users of that transformer.

The Public Relations Officer of the Committee, Mr. Stanley Abanofor, called on public-spirited indigenes of Obosi to lend financial support to the committee in order for it to achieve the goals for which it is constituted.

He implored EEDC officers in Obosi to collaborate with members of the Obosi Electricity Committee to ensure that evaders of payment for consumed energy are included in their list of people, who receive monthly electricity bills.
