The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, has been honoured with a merit award by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Anambra State Chapter, for his outstanding contributions and exceptional performance in the health sector.
The award was presented during the association’s Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference, where Dr. Obidike was celebrated for his impactful leadership and commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Anambra State.

According to the Chairman NMA, Dr. Princeston Okam, the award recognizes Dr. Obidike’s efforts in driving healthcare reforms, expanding access to quality medical services, and supporting the welfare of healthcare professionals in the state.
“This honour is in recognition of the commissioner’s tireless work in strengthening the healthcare system and implementing people-oriented policies that are saving lives.

“The three awardees: Her Excellency, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the governor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu and Dr. Afam Obidike were carefully selected in recognition of their giant strides and achievements in the field of medicine, various positions of responsibility held at different levels within the state and beyond.”
Dr. Obidike, under the administration of Gov. Charles Soludo, has overseen the successful rollout of a free antenatal and delivery programme across state-owned hospitals, a move aimed at reducing maternal mortality and easing financial burdens on families.

In his remarks, Dr. Obidike expressed appreciation to the NMA for the recognition, dedicating the award to Gov. Soludo and all healthcare workers in Anambra State.
“I am deeply honoured by this award. It is a reflection of the collective effort of our health workers and the unwavering support of Governor Soludo, whose vision continues to transform the health sector,” he said.
Dr. Obidike reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and urged health professionals to continue upholding the highest standards in service delivery.
