In a significant breakthrough, the Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a notorious vehicle thief, Chidi Nwoye ‘M’ (24 years old), in a joint operation with local vigilante groups on August 22, 2025. The arrest was made by operatives of the Isiowulu Police Division.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was intercepted on Minaj Road, Obosi, while operating a stolen tricycle. During interrogation, he confessed to using master keys to steal vehicles and tricycles from parked locations.
SP Ikenga stated the police recovered one Hyundai Tucson vehicle (Registration No. PH 725 AAA) and one tricycle (Registration No. NSH 051 UD), both without ignition keys, as well as eight assorted mobile phones and other exhibits. The recovered items also included a black face cap with “AVG Special Force” insignia, a battle axe, a driver’s license, keys and master keys, ATM cards, a PVC, a vehicle tracking device, and various electronic devices and personal effects.
He also said that the police are currently conducting further investigations, including a search of the suspect’s hideout, to potentially recover additional stolen items. Members of the public who may have recently fallen victim to similar thefts are invited to visit the Isiowulu Police Station to identify and potentially recover their stolen properties.
However, the suspect will be prosecuted in court upon completion of the investigation. The Anambra State Police Command commends the collaboration with local vigilante groups for their role in the successful operation, he added.
