The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, has urged members of the Creative Industry in the state to come together to provide positive narratives that highlight the state’s beauty and vast tourism potential to attract more visitors, enhance Anambra’s image, and strengthen its creative economy.
“Anambra boasts fascinating tourist attractions, including the newly established Solution Fun City, a rich cultural heritage with diverse festivals, and skilled professionals across various fields. When properly marketed, these assets can significantly boost the state’s economy,” he said.
The Commissioner made this appeal during a roundtable meeting titled “The Anambra State Creative Industry: Solutions and Prospects,” held with creatives at the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism conference hall in Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka.

He emphasized the diverse makeup of the creative industry, including musicians, comedians, filmmakers, visual artists, writers, content creators, DJs, masters of ceremonies, and hype men, others. “We need to organize this industry to ensure all sectors are involved in our initiatives. Let us collaborate to promote our brand, #DestinationAnambra, to draw visitors to the state. This will enhance businesses and elevate the state’s positive profile,” he urged.
“The creative industry holds immense potential and has gained international recognition. This conversation is increasingly present at the federal level, with the establishment of the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy. Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to developing this industry as it aligns with his manifesto. He has supported the establishment of the ANAWOOD Film Village, a platform open to all,” he noted.

In his remarks, Mr. Bob-Manuel Udokwu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Entertainment, Leisure, and Tourism, and a veteran Nollywood actor, encouraged creatives to promote the state positively. He warned that negative portrayals could impact all sectors, including the businesses of those who contribute to such portrayals. “As a content creator, you should showcase your state in a positive light. This will enhance both the state’s image and your business,” he advised.
He highlighted the growing appeal of Anambra as a fun destination, saying, “Previously, people would travel to Asaba and Enugu for entertainment, but with Solution Fun City, they are now choosing Anambra for leisure. That is what we aspire for our state—to become a tourism hub.”
Mr. Christopher Molokwu, Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), pointed out that Rwanda is one of the most visited countries in Africa due to its effective marketing strategies. He noted that Rwanda even promotes itself in the Premier League using the hashtag #VisitRwanda.
“It is time for us to actively promote our state by showcasing our rich cultural symbols. In the 1990s, Hollywood implemented a deliberate strategy to highlight American symbols, such as the flag and the Statue of Liberty, to enhance their national image. Despite challenges, places like London and New York maintain a positive narrative about themselves.
“Let’s change our narrative and share positive stories about ourselves because if we don’t, others will tell our stories and potentially cast us in a negative light,” he added.
Mr. Nadi Pascal Mmirioma, the Vice President of Anambra Comedians, commended the state government for recognizing the vital role of creatives in the growth and development of Anambra.
He expressed confidence that the group would work together with the government to highlight and promote the significant progress being made in the state to the world. Mr. Mbata Jerry, Secretary of DJAN, urged everyone to promote the state online, emphasizing that the internet is a powerful tool for marketing.
