It was a solemn day of farewell at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, as the Catholic community gathered to pay their last respect to late Rev. Fr. James Nwofor, who passed away at the age of 83.

The burial Mass was presided over by the Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, and drew a large congregation of priests, family members, parishioners, and dignitaries who came to honor the life and service of the late priest.

Among those in attendance were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa; Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora; Member Representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, Hon. Barr. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe; and the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who also serves as Chief of Staff to the APGA National Chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Obiefuna.

Tributes poured in during the Mass celebrating Rev. Fr. Nwofor as a devoted servant of God whose decades of ministry were marked by humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the spiritual and social growth of the church and the wider society.

In their condolence messages, APGA National Chairman Ezeokenwa, Mayor Nwora, and Hon. Azikiwe extended their sympathies to Archbishop Okeke, the Catholic faithful, and bereaved family, describing the late cleric as a man who left behind a legacy of love, faith, and service.

“May the soul of Rev. Fr. James Nwofor, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in the peace of Christ,” they prayed.
