History was made on September 17 as the long-awaited Mmiata–Nzam 13k road and newly minted administrative staff building were officially commissioned by the Governor of Anambra State, Governor Chukuwma Soludo, breaking decades of neglect in the region.
For years, this road had come to symbolize unfulfilled promises, leaving Nzam in Anambra West isolated and struggling with limited access to markets, schools, and healthcare. The successful completion of the road signifies a turning point for the local community.

In his speech, Governor Soludo reiterated his administration’s dedication to quality infrastructure that directly benefits citizens. He highlighted that the new road would not only enhance access to the Council headquarters but also foster commerce, improve connectivity, and accelerate development throughout Anambra West.
He described the project as a fulfillment of the government’s promise to open up Anambra West to economic growth and prosperity, pointing out that it would facilitate easier movement within the local government area and promote trade, agriculture, and social integration across the entire Igala-speaking region of the state.

Governor Soludo praised the resilience of the people of Anambra West and assured them that his administration is committed to extending infrastructure development to every part of Anambra State.

He also made a brief stop over to the popular Otupu market where he expressed amazement at the agricultural richness of Anambra’s residents, proclaiming that Anambra West alone has the potential to feed both Anambra State and its neighboring states.
In his remarks, Hon. Fidelis Nnazor, Executive Chairman of Anambra West LGA, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Governor, describing his initiatives as “a new dawn in Anambra West.”
He praised the Governor for transforming the narrative of Local Government through exceptional infrastructure development, emphasizing that the newly commissioned road project does more than just involve laying asphalt; it represents the unlocking of economic opportunities, the advancement of social progress, and the restoration of dignity to Anambra West.
The Anambra West Boss then appealed for more assistance especially Mmiata-Umuenwelum- Umuikwu- Umudora – Onono and Nzam-Inoma routes, as well as for expanded electrification and the establishment of a Smart School in the Local Government area.
Traditional rulers, community leaders, and enthusiastic residents of Anambra West came out in large numbers to celebrate what they called the end of a long-standing jinx that had left the road neglected for decades.
