In a significant move to address energy challenges and enhance security in rural communities, the Executive Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Fidelis Nnazor, has officially launched and distributed 1,000 solar-powered lights to communities within the LGA.
The event, which took place on September 9, attracted stakeholders, community leaders, politicians, captain of industries and residents, marks a pivotal step in promoting sustainable energy access in one of Anambra State’s riverine and agrarian regions.

Speaking during the launch, Hon. Nnazor said that the project, named “Lighting Up Anambra West,” aims to provide clean, reliable, and affordable power to households, schools, health centers, and small businesses in the region.
He emphasized that this initiative would not only enhance night time security but also stimulate economic and social activities across rural areas.
The council chairman acknowledged Governor Chukwuma Soludo for fostering an environment that enables such community-focused projects, noting that the distribution of solar lights aligns with the governor’s vision for a livable and prosperous Anambra.
Some stakeholders present at the event praised the council chairman for what they regarded as a practical example of responsive leadership. They highlighted that this project would positively impact ordinary citizens’ lives and bolster efforts to adopt renewable energy.
This distribution of solar light units represents one of the boldest actions taken by the Anambra West council administration to promote sustainable energy and foster community development.
