The Anambra State’s Education sector has again showcased its educational excellence as Anambra State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (AANFE) clinched top prizes at a national vocational skills competition held in Owerri, Imo State.

Receiving the team at the Ministry of Education in Awka, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, commended the participants for their outstanding performance, describing the win as proof that “Anambra is always on the lead.”

Prof. Chuma-Udeh attributed the continued successes in the state’s education sector to the deliberate reforms of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, whom she said is systematically overhauling the educational system and making every part of it an icon.

Highlighting AANFE’s pivotal role in the state’s education system, the commissioner noted that the agency remains a strong arm of the ministry, equipping adults and non-formal learners with practical skills that enable them to contribute meaningfully to society.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of AANFE, Mrs. Ebele Ononihu, expressed appreciation to Governor Soludo and the Ministry of Education for creating an enabling environment for adult literacy and non-formal education to thrive in Anambra.

She explained that the state participated in five skill categories; tailoring, shoe and bag making, bakery, beauty and cosmetology, hairdressing, and catering, with the team emerging second in both tailoring and shoe/bag making.

The Anambra contingent included Nzube Nwobodo, Precious Okosa, Benedette Idenyi, Faith Gabriel, and Mebuge Priscilla, who represented the state in the competition.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Miss Okosa thanked the state government for its continuous support and promised that the skills acquired through the AANFE program would be put into practice and passed on to others within their communities.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of the prizes won to the Ministry, which featured a commercial oven, sewing machines, beauty and hairdressing equipment, LED soft ring light, makeup kits, bench grinder, nylon sealer, hand mixer, dryers, and other vocational tools.

With this latest achievement, Anambra continues to affirm its reputation as a leading state in education, skills development, and youth empowerment under the Soludo administration.
