The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called on women journalists to leverage their media influence in promoting and preserving the Igbo language.

Dr Soludo made the appeal during her investiture as Grand Patron of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, held at the Light House, Awka. The honour, according to NAWOJ was in recognition of her remarkable contributions to health advocacy, women and children empowerment and cultural preservation.

Expressing her gratitude for the recognition, Dr Soludo urged journalists to take the lead in safeguarding the Igbo language, describing it as a vital marker of identity and pride.
“We really need to promote our Igbo language,” she said. “These days, many people hide their identity by adopting English names. Our language is our pride and we must not let it fade away.”
The Governor’s wife further underscored the importance of healthy living as the foundation for productivity and fulfilment.

“Health is the greatest wealth,” she noted. “When one faces health challenges, everything else loses meaning. But when you rest well, stay hydrated and exercise regularly, you not only look good and feel happy but also become more productive and effective in your work.”
Commending women journalists for their professionalism, resilience and commitment, Dr Soludo highlighted the unique ability of women to excel when entrusted with responsibility.
“I’m very happy for your visit,” she said. “Once you hand something over to women, they tend to do it well.”
She reaffirmed her continuous support alongside that of the Governor for NAWOJ’s initiatives, promoting social welfare, health awareness and value driven journalism across Anambra State.
In her remarks, the NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, described Dr Soludo as “a compassionate leader and role model whose dedication to the well-being of women and children continues to inspire.”
Comrade Ifejika also applauded the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, noting its far-reaching impact on community health and wellness campaigns throughout the state.
