Government Secondary School Afikpo Old Boys Association(GSSAOBA), has invested the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu with the “Lifetime Award”.
The investiture took place during the GSSAOBA 2025 Homecoming at the Old School in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.
The Award, according to GSSAOBA, was in recognition of his invaluable and significant contributions to humankind in education and related areas.
The Award Committee noted that they considered Excellence, Character and Integrity in choosing their nominees, of which Prof. Ofoegbu was found worthy in all ramifications.
Delivering the keynote lecture with the theme” Building the momentum- A Homecoming with a cause”, Prof Ofoegbu outlined the importance of homecoming to include; remembrance of shared experiences long after graduation, creation of a sense of belonging and connection to peers, strengthening the bonds within the school as a community, among others.
With special emphasis on education, Prof. Ofoegbu noted that education has always been the greatest gift and the foundation upon which nations are built. He said that without education, dreams remain wishes but with education, dreams become plans and plans become reality.
Shortly after receiving the Award, the ASSMDCL Boss while commending GSSAOBA for such recognition, assured that he will continue to make positive impacts, as the Award is symbolic and an attempt to record historical achievements in a manner that will inspire the younger generation to emulate his feat in giving back to the society.
The event also featured Posthumous Award presentation to Hon Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr Akanu Ibiam and Dr Imoke.
