The Nigerian Medical Association Awka zone has kicked off its 2025 Physicians Week with an impactful opening ceremony and scientific conference at the NMA secretariat Awka.
The conference theme,”Health Care as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency From Policy To Patient’ and sub themes,”Ai,Ethics And The Physicians role In Modern Health Care’ were carefully chosen to brainstorm on measures to take the health care delivery system to the next level.
In a message at the opening ceremony,the Chairman of the zone Dr Basil Dim spoke of the imperatives of the week for the medical practitioners as an annual event to brainstorm on critical medical issues to promote health care delivery services in the society.
Dr.Dim found the theme and the sub themes of the conference as impactful, thought provoking and timely considering the dynamic changes in the modern society.
The chairman expects all medical doctors and health practitioners to key into the global trend of artificial intelligence to enhance their proficiency and improving the health care delivery in the state and beyond.
In one of the lectures delivered at the conference,Dr.Chioma Ajator of the Nnamdi Azikiwe teaching hospital Nnewi campus enumerated the benefits of the effective use of the artificial intelligence to promote efficiency in the medical practice.
According to Dr.Ajator,Ai has its immense benefits but some pitfalls which the medical practitioner can correct through careful study, analysis and experience using the human elements like emotion which the machines do not have.
In another message,a former Awka Zonal Chairman of the NMA Dr.Johnson Ezedinachi congratulated the association for its persistence in holding its annual physicians week and called for its sustenance.
Dr.Ezedinachi spoke of the imperatives of the artificial intelligence as apt for the practice of modern medicine which promotes efficiency and accuracy of huge data
According to the medical expert,Ai has its flaws in the practice of examination malpractices among youths,abuse by some yahoo boys in defrauding people,and prone to mistakes arising from feeding of wrong data in the computer.
He advocated its effective use and monitoring to prevent mis information.
Another former Awka Zonal Chairman of the NMA Dr.Patrick Ezeno also advocated the use of the Ai in enhancing efficiency in the medical practice.
One of the high points of the occasion was the presentation of awards to some members of the Association namely Prof.Osita Umeononihu among other 4 medical practitioners rewarded for their punctuality to the scientific conference.
The Physicians Week has other line up of activities including the award giving ceremony which will hold on Saturday 25th October 2025 at the Hilton Leisure hotel Awka.
