The Anambra governorship election has been described as peaceful and smooth by voters and security officials across the state.

Voters in Awka South, Anaocha, and Aguata local government areas commended the peaceful conduct of the election despite minor glitches in the operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in some polling units.

At the Anambra State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election duties, CP Aboyomi Shogunle, stated that the exercise was largely peaceful across the state.

“We have gone round Anambra and witnessed massive turnout of voters who were accredited and cast their votes peacefully. Reports from the Local Government Areas also show positive outcomes in terms of security,” he said.

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere was the result of deliberate planning and effective collaboration among relevant agencies.

“This happened because of the adequate planning, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration between INEC and all the security agencies responsible for election security,” the Commissioner noted.

He added that the success recorded was intentional and well-prepared for, saying, “We expected it because it is what we planned for over six months, and to God be the glory, it turned out as we envisaged.”

Meanwhile, during the collation of results at Awka Ward V, Agulu Awka, Ozo Emeka Jude Agumadu (popularly known as Baby Awka) described the election as “free and fair.”

He commended INEC, security agencies, and the electorate for their roles in ensuring a credible process, expressing optimism that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would emerge victorious across various wards.

Other voters at Arroma I and II, Ogbugbankwa, Aguluzigbo, Isuofia, and Agulu also described the election as hitch-free and peaceful.
