The former Director General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Joseph Ikem Odumodu, marked his 68th birthday with jubilation and gratitude.

The two-day celebration held at his country home in Enuoji Village, Amawbia, drew dignitaries from all walks of life—home and abroad. The event kicked off with a solemn Holy Mass celebrated by a bloc of Catholic priests, setting a spiritual tone for the festivities, in line with his annual tradition.

Dr. Odumodu’s milestone celebration was a blend of thanksgiving, reflection, and joyful reunion.

Delivering the Homily, Rev. Fr. Malachy Maduewesi emphasized key lessons from the readings and the life of Christ.

He reminded the faithful that Jesus was obedient unto death—even death on a cross (Galatians 4:4-5). Though divine, Christ humbled Himself and submitted to the law to redeem those under it. This, the priest said, is a call for all Christians to obey God’s commandments sincerely.

Fr. Maduewesi stressed that love for God must reflect in our actions. “Anyone who claims to love God but harbours hatred or pride is not walking in the light. True love for God is shown by keeping His commandments and loving our neighbours,” he said.

Drawing from the Gospel, he highlighted the faith of Simeon, who trusted God’s promise and waited to see the Savior. His perseverance and obedience were rewarded. He saw the Christ Child before his death. Christians, the priest said, must emulate Simeon’s patience and unwavering trust in God.

He also noted that although the Blessed Virgin Mary was sinless and conceived by the Holy Spirit, she still obeyed the law of purification. Her humility and obedience should be a model for all believers.

Dr. Odumodu warmly welcomed guests to his 68th birthday celebration, expressing deep gratitude to God for the gift of life despite the challenges of 2025. He described the year as difficult for many but emphasized that being alive is a reason for thanksgiving.

He declared the Praise Night a moment of worship and reflection to thank God for His faithfulness in 2025 and to prayerfully usher in a prosperous 2026. The atmosphere was lifted by powerful ministration from several gospel artistes, including the twin sister of the late Osinachi Nwachukwu, backed by a spirited live band.

Dr. Odumodu used the occasion to address societal concerns, particularly the growing trend of neopaganism and the desperate pursuit of wealth by many youths. He cautioned young people against shortcuts to success, warning that such paths often lead to destruction. “Wait on God and follow due process. A life built on patience and integrity lasts longer,” he advised.

He also made a passionate appeal to the clergy: “Our priests must intensify their evangelization and teachings. The church has a crucial role in confronting the moral decay and spiritual confusion in our society.”

Dr. Odumodu offered heartfelt prayers for his children, expressing his deepest wish to witness their growth and success in all aspects of life. He prayed to be alive to see them excel in their careers, establish their own families, and fulfill their destinies. “May God grant me the grace to see my children prosper, build their homes, and become shining lights in society,” he prayed.

He also prayed for a fruitful and peaceful 2026, wishing everyone present God’s blessings in the new year.
