The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, has called on the Anambra State Government to intensify security measures across the state to guarantee the safety of civil servants and residents, particularly following the full resumption of work on Mondays.
The call was made during the Association’s February congress where members deliberated extensively on governance, security, and infrastructural development in the state.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Anambra State Chapter, Tochukwu Ifejika, emphasized the need for proactive security deployment across the state.
“While we commend the State Government for abolishing the sit-at-home order over the past two years and mandating civil servants to resume work fully on Mondays, there is a pressing need to further strengthen security across the state. Civil servants, traders, students, and residents must feel safe and protected as they go about their lawful duties,” she stated.
The Association acknowledged that restoring normal work schedules is a positive step toward economic stability and productivity in Anambra State.
NAWOJ also commended the Anambra State Government for ongoing road construction and other infrastructure projects across the state.
“We must sincerely appreciate the Government for the visible road projects and infrastructural development across various communities. Good roads are critical to economic growth, accessibility, and social development,” Ifejika added.
However, the Association appealed to the Government to urgently address the deplorable state of some roads in certain communities.
“While many roads are receiving attention, there are still communities grappling with severely deteriorated roads. We urge the Government to look into these areas to ensure balanced and inclusive development across the state,” she said.
NAWOJ reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, responsible journalism, and sustainable development in Anambra State.
