Today, March 8, Anambra State joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day, a globally recognized day dedicated to celebrating the achievements, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women to society.
In Anambra State, women remain the backbone of families, communities, and development. From the markets to classrooms, hospitals, farms, media spaces, and corridors of leadership, Anambra women continue to demonstrate strength, innovation, and excellence. They are mothers and mentors, entrepreneurs and professionals, peace builders and culture bearers.
International Women’s Day also provides an opportunity to reflect on the challenges women still face, including inequality, limited access to opportunities, and gender-based barriers. This year’s global theme calls for accelerated action—a reminder that progress toward gender equality must be intentional, faster, and sustained.
Here in Anambra State, this message resonates strongly.
Accelerating action means empowering the girl child through education, supporting women in leadership and governance, promoting economic opportunities for women, and protecting their rights at all levels of society.
As we mark this important day, let us move beyond celebration to commitment by creating inclusive policies, encouraging equal participation, and fostering a society where every woman and girl can thrive without discrimination. When women rise, Anambra rises.
Happy International Women’s Day to all women of Anambra State and beyond.
