Students of the College of Health Sciences, Okofia, in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State have decried the deplorable condition of the roads leading to their campus from Nnewi.
The Students Affairs President, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, Mr. Joseph Abarike, made this known during an interview with an Information Officer.

Mr. Abarike lamented the lack of steady power supply and the exploitative rental practices by landlords, noting that these challenges have subjected students to severe hardship.
He revealed that efforts by the student body to draw the attention of the member representing the area in the State House of Assembly have been unsuccessful.
He further said that the issues have been brought to the attention of the university management, Nnewi North Local Government authorities, and other relevant bodies, yet no meaningful solutions have been provided.
According to him students are currently grappling with poor and often inaccessible roads leading to the campus.
He noted that the roads were in a deplorable state, making transportation both expensive and risky, especially during the rainy season.
He added that school buses frequently break down due to the bad roads.
Mr. Abarike also decried the irregular electricity supply in Okofia, saying that power outages sometimes last up to a week. He explained that this situation severely affects students, particularly those in medical fields who rely heavily on electricity for studying and research.
In addition, he condemned the high cost of accommodation in the area. According to him, landlords charge between ₦450,000 and ₦800,000 for self-contained apartments, many of which are poorly maintained.
“In some cases, rents are charged per occupant rather than per apartment, further increasing the financial burden on students,” he added.
The student leader also raised concerns over the lack of an effective waste disposal system in Okofia, warning that the area is gradually turning into a dumpsite.
“This poses serious health and environmental risks to students and residents alike,” he said.
The students have therefore appealed to the Anambra State Government to urgently intervene and address these pressing issues in order to create a safer and more conducive learning environment for the students.

I’m a student of the medical campus in question. The cost of living in CHS Okofia is very high in as much as it isn’t conducive for learning. We stay days without electricity and water .
We are suffering here .
Bad roads are another course of concern especially during this rainy season, please we need maintenance on this road
The poor electricity causing lack of water is really affecting us here in okofia
Not even a good network to access the internet
We are just cooked we really need help from the government
The seats in auditorium where we have most of our lectures as 200level students are all in a mess
The rate at which rent increase in this CHS is quite alarming, parents are weeping please let the government come to our aid oooo😭😭😭🤲
I am a medical student studying in the okofia campus and I can attest to all that has been mentioned above. Pls attend to us as soon as possible as everything stated above heavily affects effective and conducive study.

I’m a student of the medical campus in question. The living conditions are so bad and not conducive for learning. The electricity is unstable, the roads are bad, there’s no proper refuse disposal system making the roads dirty too, the rent is too high and landlord’s are exploiting us the students, our classrooms don’t have enough good seats, the board is not in good condition, there’s no projector in the classrooms and this makes learning less effective because there’s no visual representation of the theory that is being taught. I hope we will get the solutions to our problems soon .
This is a health science campus!
This school should be the pride of Anambra State and their major concern to improve the living of students here.
This environment is not in a favorable condition and it is negatively affecting us.
The roads are bad and also the classroom are not conducive for learning. There is no board or projector for visuals
I am a student on Unizik,Okofia
Currently we have not had power supply for more than 3 days if I am not mistaken, bad roads everywhere. The pedestrians drag road with the motorcyclists.
The cost of living is now something words cannot explain.
Speaking of which,
We don’t have a conducive platform for learning,
The Classroom chairs are bad
We don’t have enough classrooms for learning.
Combined with the power failure, the class room is always hot.
I strongly believe that our pleas will be heard and the necessary thing will be done.
Thank you so much
The state of the roads in the school area are deplorable. The light issue is so bad that I and other students have to pay to charge phones and other gadget at centers on a daily basis. The price of accommodation has even peaked to around 800k sometimes and some of these lodges can last days without water. We would have to walk distances to get access to water. Even the school sick bay and lecture halls are so disgraceful. Internet service is also awful coupled with the outrageous amount we’re asked to pay for subscription.
We’re asking for solutions here. These services are the bare minimum of what we’re entitled to as students. We need results and enough of promises.
The rate of increase in rent is extremely high here in okofia , making it increasingly difficult for parents to provide
The prices of some lodges here are getting close to a million and we don’t even have a choice but to pay
Pls we really need help with this
The roads are extremely bad
Very poor electricity, there is hardly light here in okofia, leading to lack of water. We’ve gone for weeks without proper light
The auditorium where 200l students hold their lectures is not conducive at all
The seats are all bad
The good ones are all bent making it difficult and uncomfortable to sit through Long hours of lectures
Even the White board is not in a good shape
We sincerely ask that these issues be looked it and we await a positive response
Thank you
These are very major concerns facing we students especially power outages
We plead that the government should intervene meaningfully into these students lives that are learning and practicing to become medical practitioners to help the masses
How are we going to learn adequately if environment conditions are unfavorable.
I’m a physiotherapy student in CHS, the school lacks proper waste disposal system ,power supply and we have very poor and dangerous road, All class rooms are in very bad state ,please I and my fellow course mate are calling on state government to come to our aids cause students here are truly suffering
This is a nice summary of what we actually face. The living conditions in CHS Okofia is really terrible.
We can’t read with our phones and laptops or even check for lecture updates because we barely have power supply. As I’m writing this, this is the fifth day since the last time we had light. This also means we don’t always have water too.
The landlords here are another disturbing issue. Lodge rent is very expensive. I could pay my school fees for at least 2 years with my rent.
The roads are in a very bad state. Transport fares are very expensive because of that. This place is not conducive for learning. No light, no network, no water, bad roads, high rent, it’s a miracle we’re surviving.
The government should please do something.

Honestly, it’s really appalling to believe that this is a campus for medical students. The roads are horrible, There’s no electricity, The prices of things are so high like why is it so expensive, The learning conditions horrible you come to classes and there are not enough seats, no fan, no board, sound system bad… There are like a 100 things i can list but this environment isn’t doing any good to it’s students.
Honestly, I’ve read the article and I must say that I can attest to everything.
The lack of electricity in CHS Okofia is so alarming that light has now become a miracle here, we literally beg for light, and apparently when there’s no light, we will definitely not have water, and water and light are very necessary for students.
The roads here are nothing to write about, it’s as if we are climbing hill daily cos the roads are very terrible.
What about the outrageous rent we pay.
Landlord doing nothing other than increasing rent.
Lack of public address system during lectures. How are we going to learn, we are over a 500 inside the auditorium for lectures and there’s no public address system.
Even the white board there is barely surviving.
Honestly, the environment here isn’t conducive at all for us
First, I’ll start with the fact that this campus is so neglected which is not to be so, this is a campus for medical students and not animals.
Secondly,There is no stable light , students pay outrageous amounts daily looking for where to charge their phones or power banks which is just crazy to me because this is a small community of students and providing electricity shouldn’t be that hard.
Thirdly, This area is supposed to be a students area but it is so overpriced, from lack of hostels forcing students to go to look for lodges which are so expensive is nonsense, there’s no price regulation landlords can’t just wake up one morning and be increasing rent.
Fourthly, the learning conditions are so bad, from lack of seats in classrooms, to lack of fans or even boards and protectors for learning, lack of facilities for students to carry out practicals.
It’s a lot honestly and it can’t continue going on like this 😭😭.
I am a medical student at the college of Health Science, Nnewi campus.
The high rent that most landlords charge here is just unbelievable. With the way this country is, it just makes living here costly and hard for most students.
There has not been light for the past three days, poor network, let us not even talk about the bad road.
Where I stay, the landlord is already planning to increase rent because other landlords are, we can’t even use light to pump water, we buy fuel and through the use of a generator we are able to pump water, so why is he increasing the rent, he hasn’t made any changes in the lodge!!!!
My account is already bleeding from the daily contributions.
Okofia is not student friendly.
The lack of electricity most especially is truly a major setback in our progress as students. We often go 5 days – a week without electricity leading to other issues like lack of water and paying daily to charge phones and power banks needed for study and research.
Our auditorium on the other hand, is a disaster. The seats are mostly destroyed and the white board has a big hole in it.
We really are suffering here and we need help.
