The administration of Chukwuma Soludo has introduced several initiatives aimed at promoting biological diversity, environmental sustainability, and ecosystem restoration across Anambra State.

One of the major programmes of the administration is the statewide tree-planting campaign designed to combat deforestation, erosion, and the effects of climate change. Under the “One House, Two Trees” initiative, the government distributed millions of economic and indigenous tree seedlings, including palm, coconut, ukwa, bitter kola, pawpaw, and baobab trees to communities across the state.

His administration unveiled a long-term plan to plant at least 10 million trees across Anambra as part of efforts to preserve biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems, improve forest cover, and create sustainable economic opportunities for residents.

In response to the severe gully erosion threatening many communities in the state, the Soludo administration strengthened environmental protection measures through erosion control projects, afforestation, drainage improvements, and watershed management programmes. The government also collaborated with agencies such as the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) and other environmental partners to reclaim erosion-threatened areas.

As part of efforts to preserve indigenous and endangered plant species, the administration encouraged the planting of economic trees that are gradually disappearing from the ecosystem, including ukwa and oji Igbo. The initiative is expected to support biodiversity conservation while preserving local plant species for future generations.

The administration further introduced and enforced environmental management policies targeted at controlling pollution, indiscriminate waste disposal, deforestation, bush burning, and other forms of environmental degradation. The Environmental Management, Protection and Administration Law 2024 was enacted to strengthen ecological sustainability and environmental governance in the state.

In the area of urban environmental restoration, the government embarked on sanitation and urban renewal projects in areas such as Okpoko, Onitsha, Awka, and Nnewi through the clearing of refuse dumps, improvement of green spaces, and restoration of degraded urban environments.

Through the Ministry of Environment, the administration has also intensified sensitisation campaigns aimed at encouraging communities, schools, markets, and households to actively participate in environmental conservation and biodiversity protection initiatives across the state.
