‎The Anambra State Government, in partnership with MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and its consultants, CCGE/CLI, has convened a Traffic and Security Management Summit aimed at addressing persistent congestion and security concerns along the Enugu–Onitsha Dual Carriageway.
‎
‎The summit, held in Awka, brought together government officials, security agencies, transport operators, road experts, and private-sector stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions for improving traffic flow, road safety, and security on the strategic highway.
‎
‎Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, described the highway as a vital economic corridor and noted that increasing commercial activities, indiscriminate parking, street trading, poor lane discipline, and the presence of heavy-duty vehicles have worsened traffic congestion and security challenges. She reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to improving road infrastructure and eliminating traffic bottlenecks across the state.
‎

‎The Coordinator of CCGE/CLI, Dr. Reginald Facah, identified the Anambra section of the highway as the busiest and most vulnerable stretch in the South-East, stressing the need for modern traffic and security management measures. He proposed integrated traffic and security operations, professional road asset management, and the deployment of Smart Road technologies to enhance efficiency and safety.
‎

‎Stakeholders adopted key recommendations, including the removal of static security checkpoints, deployment of mobile patrol teams, creation of an Anambra State Highway Task Force, enforcement of axle-load regulations, and development of designated truck parks.
‎They also endorsed a Smart Road Initiative featuring CCTV surveillance, drone monitoring, and a centralized command-and-control centre for real-time traffic and security management.
‎
‎The summit ended with a renewed commitment by government, security agencies, transport unions, and private-sector partners to work together towards making the Enugu–Onitsha Highway safer, more secure, and more efficient for road users.
