The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has reiterated the importance of responsible road use, urging motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians to embrace safe practices that can help reduce accidents and save lives.

The agency, through its ongoing public enlightenment campaigns on its official social media platforms, particularly its Facebook page, emphasized that adherence to traffic regulations remains essential for ensuring safety on roads across the state.

According to ARTMA, road users should always obey traffic signs and road markings, maintain approved speed limits and avoid reckless driving, advising drivers to wear seat belts, refrain from using mobile phones while driving and never operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol or hard drugs.

ARTMA stressed the need for motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and use indicators appropriately when turning or changing lanes, cautioning against one-way route violations and dangerous overtaking, which continue to pose serious risks to road safety.

Motorcyclists were encouraged to wear approved safety helmets at all times, while pedestrians were advised to make use of designated crossings and walkways where available.

The agency noted that patience, courtesy and respect for other road users are critical ingredients for safer roads and smoother traffic flow.

Reaffirming its commitment to promoting road safety in Anambra State, ARTMA emphasized that preventing traffic crashes requires collective responsibility, urging all road users to comply with established traffic rules to help build a safer and more orderly transportation environment.
