The Wife of the Chairman, Nnewi North Local Government Area, Lady Echezona Akachukwu, has encouraged women and young people to make regular physical exercise a part of their daily lives in order to maintain good health and prevent lifestyle-related illnesses.
Speaking during the weekly healthy-living exercise programme held in Nnewi on June 13, Lady Akachukwu addressed participants after a three-kilometre walk attended by members of town unions, women leaders, market associations, and health workers from the four communities that make up the local government area.

She noted that consistent physical activity plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, which she said are becoming increasingly common among younger people.
According to her, good health is fundamental to achieving personal goals and aspirations. “The human body is the vehicle that powers our aspirations. When it is weakened, aspirations cannot be realized,” she stated, while urging residents to adopt and sustain active lifestyles.

Lady Akachukwu emphasized that maintaining physical fitness does not require expensive gym memberships, explaining that everyday activities such as walking to the market, dancing, jogging, skipping, stretching, and farming can serve as effective forms of exercise when done regularly.
She further encouraged mothers to set positive examples for their children, noting that young people are more likely to embrace healthy habits when they see their parents practicing them consistently.
The weekly healthy-living initiative is aimed at promoting wellness among residents of Nnewi North and encouraging greater community participation in simple, affordable, and sustainable physical activities.
