Business activities at Nkpor Main Market and Nkpor New Parts Market are gradually improving on Mondays following the directive of the Governor of Anambra State for the resumption of economic and social activities across the state on Mondays.
Despite the noticeable improvement, traders say some challenges remain due to the reluctance of certain individuals to fully comply with the directive.
Speaking with Nkeiruka Edith at Nkpor Main Market, Mrs. Ada Emmanuel described Monday trading as initially difficult for many traders.
According to her, there were days when sales were so poor that traders struggled to recover their transportation costs.
“I usually keep my transport fare for the return journey in my purse before coming to the market to avoid disappointment,” she said.

She, however, expressed gratitude over the increasing turnout of traders and customers, noting that the situation has improved considerably.
“Thank God, today you can see more people unlike before. We are really improving,” she added.
Another trader, Mrs. Amaka Iruoha, who deals in clothing materials, said business activities are now better than when Monday trading first resumed.
“At least now I can sell one or two clothes before closing for the day,” she stated.

Mrs. Iruoha appealed to customers, particularly those coming from outside Onitsha, to resume patronizing the markets on Mondays, assuring them that the environment is safe and conducive for business.
Also speaking, Mr. Chima Ituma, a spare parts dealer at Nkpor Market, said he initially attended the market on Mondays out of fear of losing his shop or being sanctioned.
According to him, he now appreciates the initiative as business activities continue to improve.
“If buyers begin to come out in larger numbers, Mondays will become just like every other market day,” he said.
The traders expressed optimism that with sustained compliance and increased patronage, Monday trading will continue to gain momentum across the markets.
