The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has warned principals to improve supervision in their schools or face removal from office during an unscheduled examination monitoring exercise across selected public secondary schools on July 15.
The commissioner visited Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, and Community Secondary School, Okpuno, to assess compliance with examination guidelines, particularly the ongoing NECO examinations, and reinforce the government’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

Dr. Ogugua said the state government would no longer tolerate any practice that undermines the credibility of public examinations, stressing that schools must not become centres where students depend on unfair means to succeed.
At Igwebuike Grammar School, the commissioner expressed disappointment over the level of disorder, observing many students loitering around the premises during examination hours, a situation he said reflected poor supervision by the school management.
He also faulted the condition of the examination hall, describing it as untidy and below acceptable standards, and urged the school authorities to provide a conducive examination environment that promotes discipline, orderliness and academic excellence.

Addressing the students, Dr. Ogugua encouraged them to maintain a clean environment, noting that cleanliness reflects good character, discipline and respect for learning, while also creating a better atmosphere for academic activities.
At Community Secondary School, Okpuno, the commissioner observed that the NECO examination had not commenced at the scheduled time because the external supervisors were yet to arrive, while some students were seen outside.
Responding, the school’s Principal, Mrs. Osigwe, explained that the students outside were Junior Secondary School candidates who had completed their first paper and were waiting for the next examination to begin.
The commissioner said the monitoring exercise forms part of the Soludo administration’s efforts to restore integrity to the education sector, warning that principals who fail to uphold examination standards and discipline would face appropriate sanctions.
