Anambra State recently hosted the National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) as part of its 2026 South-East field monitoring exercise. The exercise was designed to evaluate and monitor the performance of subnational governments in implementing various National Economic Council (NEC) initiatives, while also assessing the overall development performance of states against agreed national priorities.
The monitoring exercise forms part of the Council’s commitment to promoting accountability, evidence-based governance, and improved service delivery across the federation. The delegation was led by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ebonyi State, Mrs. Chinwe Okah, followed by Mr. Michael Okoduwa of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Welcoming the delegation, the Anambra State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye, described the exercise as an important opportunity for the state to demonstrate the significant progress recorded under the administration of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in building a state anchored on transparency, accountability, innovation, and measurable development outcomes.

He noted that Governor Soludo’s administration has deliberately aligned Anambra’s development agenda with national priorities through strategic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, innovation, entrepreneurship, and human capital development, all aimed at accelerating inclusive economic growth and improving the quality of life of Ndi Anambra.
As part of the monitoring exercise, the delegation inspected several flagship projects, including the Solution Innovation District (SID), the Trauma Centre at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, the Oxygen Gas Plant at Enugwu-Ukwu, and other transformative projects completed within the last nine months. The projects showcased Anambra State’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, expanding digital innovation, and driving sustainable economic transformation.
The committee also reviewed strategic interventions such as the One Youth, Two Skills Programme and the initiatives of the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA), which continue to equip young people with employable and entrepreneurial skills while supporting small businesses to thrive. These programmes reflect the state’s commitment to creating jobs, empowering its people, and positioning Anambra as Nigeria’s foremost innovation-driven economy.
Speaking on the significance of the exercise, Mr. Okoye stated that beyond evaluating performance, the visit provided an important platform for constructive engagement between the Federal Government and the states, facilitating peer learning, knowledge sharing, and the exchange of best practices in development planning and implementation.
He reaffirmed Anambra State’s commitment to evidence-based planning, prudent resource management, and effective policy implementation, noting that the observations and recommendations of the Committee would further strengthen the state’s development initiatives.
The commissioner expressed appreciation to the NEC Implementation Monitoring Committee for its professionalism, objectivity, and constructive engagement throughout the three-day exercise. The visit reaffirmed Anambra State’s commitment to aligning its development agenda with national priorities while sustaining Governor Soludo’s vision of building a modern, prosperous, innovation-driven economy supported by quality infrastructure, skilled human capital, and accountable governance.
