The Private Education Network of Schools Association of Nigeria (PENSAN), Anambra State Chapter, has called for stronger collaboration with the State Ministry of Education to address challenges in the private education sector and contribute to improved educational standards across the state.

The association made the call on Aug. 7, when its Chairman, Mr. Christian Nwanosike, led members on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, in Awka.

Nwanosike commended the commissioner for what he described as positive reforms and initiatives recorded since his assumption of office, expressing PENSAN’s readiness to maintain a constructive relationship with the ministry.

He said regular engagement between government and private school operators would help promote better understanding of policies, address concerns in the sector and strengthen the contribution of private schools to education development in Anambra.

The PENSAN chairman assured the ministry of the association’s willingness to support initiatives aimed at improving standards, ensuring quality education for children across the state.

Responding, Commissioner Ogugua assured the association of the ministry’s commitment to dialogue and partner with private school proprietors, stressing that government’s regulatory responsibility was aimed at maintaining standards rather than frustrating private education providers.

He urged private schools to obtain the necessary approvals, maintain proper registration and keep accurate records, noting that reliable data was essential for effective planning, monitoring and decision making in the education sector.

Ogugua clarified the ministry’s position on graduation ceremonies in schools, explaining that the government’s concern was not to prevent schools from celebrating their pupils and students, but to protect parents and guardians from excessive or compulsory financial demands associated with such events.

He encouraged PENSAN members to seek clarification from the ministry whenever they were uncertain about government policies or regulations, noting that open communication would help prevent misunderstandings and promote compliance.

The commissioner reiterated the importance of cooperation between government and private education providers in building an education system that prioritises quality, accountability and the welfare of learners.

The meeting ended with both parties expressing commitment to sustained engagement and partnership in the interest of improving education in Anambra State.
