The St. Gregory Zone One Family of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Enekwasupum, on August 11, celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass with their newly ordained son, Rev. Fr. Kenechukwu Olisa. The celebration brought together fathers, mothers, youths, children, family members, friends and well-wishers in an atmosphere of joy and thanksgiving for the gift of a new priest to the Catholic Church and the Zone One Family.

In his homily, Fr. Olisa reflected on the life and virtues of St. Lawrence of Rome, whom he described as a smiling hero who loved Jesus. He reminded the faithful that priests are called to serve God and humanity with joy, particularly by reaching out to the poor, sick and neglected and urged the congregation never to look down on the poor or marginalised.
He further reminded the faithful of Christ’s teaching that whatever is done for the least among humanity is done for Him, stressing the need to support those who have dedicated their lives to God and His service. According to him, St. Lawrence remained a cheerful servant who brought hope, faith and smiles to people even in difficult circumstances. He challenged the congregation to reflect on their readiness to serve God and others, asking, “How prepared are we when our own time comes?”
Reflecting on his own journey to the priesthood, Fr. Olisa expressed gratitude to God for His mercy and faithfulness throughout the challenges he encountered on his path to priesthood.
He appreciated the St. Gregory Zone One Family for their prayers, love and support, especially during his ordination. He also expressed gratitude to his mentor, Rev. Fr. Victor Ezeanaya, for his encouragement, guidance and support throughout his journey.
