‎The Community Women Leader of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Adaife Ngozi Chizoba Onwuka, has been re-elected President General of the Oba Women Patriotic Union, popularly known as Inyom Oba. Onwuka and her executive members were unanimously returned for another tenure after their first four years in office.
‎
‎Speaking during the 2026 August General Meeting of Inyom Oba, on Aug. 31 Onwuka delivered an address titled “Nyee Aka Dozie Obodo Anyi Bu Oba,” meaning “Help in Rebuilding Our Community, Oba.” She expressed gratitude to the women for renewing their confidence in her leadership and called on sons, daughters and stakeholders of Oba to put aside their differences and work together for the development of the community.
‎

‎Onwuka said her administration would consolidate on the achievements of its first tenure, with renewed focus on women empowerment, girl-child education, healthcare sensitisation, skills acquisition and support for vulnerable families. She also urged women to embrace economic activities and participate actively in politics, stressing that women should acquire skills and engage in businesses that could improve their families’ welfare.
‎
‎She appealed to the traditional ruler of Oba, Igwe Augustine Emelobe, Eze Okpoko II, the President General, youth leaders and other stakeholders to partner with Inyom Oba in executing people-oriented projects. She identified peace, discipline, hard work, unity and collective responsibility as essential to achieving sustainable development in the community.
‎

‎Highlighting some achievements of her first tenure, Onwuka said the union initiated the process of securing approval for Oba Women School Ltd to register students for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination/WAEC. She explained that a two-storey school building was commenced after inspectors identified inadequate facilities as a major challenge, adding that the project would be pursued to completion during her second tenure.
‎

‎She also disclosed that the union opened separate commercial bank accounts for the school and the women’s organisation, procured a new union uniform and reformed its home and overseas general meetings to make them more engaging. She added that the union had about five plots of land with a six-room structure, which it plans to complete and utilise for commercial purposes and revenue generation.
‎

‎According to Onwuka, the union also attracted a revolving interest-free loan programme sponsored by Adaeze Social Club. She said nine women received N150,000 each in the previous year and repaid the loans, while 10 women from the 10 villages of Oba received N200,000 each under the latest phase of the programme.
‎

‎The women leader encouraged women and youths to take advantage of free skills acquisition programmes sponsored by the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Amaka Obi, at the Oba Civic Centre every Sunday by covering areas such as baking and tiling. She also commended Adaeze Social Club for its fashion-design training and start-up support, while praising Igwe Emelobe for supporting youth training in long-distance driving, which she said had enabled some beneficiaries to secure jobs within and outside Nigeria.
‎

‎Onwuka further urged parents to take their responsibilities seriously and ensure proper upbringing of their children, expressing concern over the involvement of some youths in social vices. She maintained that the realisation of the New Oba Development Project required collective commitment and that there was no room for idleness, while dignitaries at the event commended her leadership and pledged support for her administration’s education, business and medical empowerment initiatives.
