The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, is set to officially flag off the National Community Food Bank (NCFB) programme in Anambra State, an intervention aimed at improving access to nutritious food for vulnerable members of the society, particularly those at risk of or affected by malnutrition.
Speaking in an interview on Sept. 6, the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr. Chizoba Prisca Ezeasor, said the programme was designed to provide food support to qualified beneficiaries as part of efforts to improve their nutritional well-being and promote healthy growth and development.
Dr. Ezeasor explained that the Anambra implementation of the NCFB would target malnourished children between six months and six years of age, as well as malnourished pregnant and lactating women. She urged prospective beneficiaries to visit their respective Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in their wards on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for screening and assessment.
According to her, children attending the screening are expected to present their immunisation cards, while pregnant and lactating women should come with their antenatal cards. She explained that qualified healthcare personnel would conduct the screening and assessment to determine the nutritional needs of participants and their eligibility for the food intervention.
Dr. Ezeasor further disclosed that beneficiaries who meet the eligibility criteria would be invited to the official launch and food-pack distribution ceremony scheduled for Sept. 10, at the Amawbia Government Lodge, Awka South Local Government Area.
She therefore encouraged all eligible beneficiaries to participate fully in the screening exercise and subsequent launch activities, stressing the importance of the programme in addressing malnutrition and supporting the health and well-being of vulnerable families in the state.
