The Anambra State Police Command has expressed concern over the reported breach of the peace agreement reached following the lingering misunderstanding between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities.
The development occurred after an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas on October 2, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, alongside military personnel, government officials and other security stakeholders, following a reported arson incident in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command strongly condemned the renewed resort to violence, destruction of property and other acts capable of threatening the peace and security of the two communities.

CP Oji Ama commended community leaders, government officials, security stakeholders and residents who had continued to respect the agreed peace resolution and avoid actions capable of worsening the situation.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, stressing that dialogue and peaceful settlement of disputes remained essential to achieving lasting peace and development in the affected communities.
He urged all parties to exercise restraint, maintain calm and allow ongoing engagements and lawful processes to address their grievances, while warning against taking the law into their own hands.
The command has also deployed strategic security measures to the affected areas and commenced efforts to identify and arrest persons suspected of violating the peace agreement or participating in the reported arson and other criminal activities.
CP Oji Ama warned that any individual or group found culpable after due investigation would face the full weight of the law, regardless of their status or affiliation.
The command further appealed to traditional rulers, town union leaders, youth leaders, women’s groups and other stakeholders in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to continue working with the Police and other security agencies to sustain calm and prevent further escalation.
The police assured residents of Anambra State of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property through dialogue, intelligence-led policing and lawful enforcement. Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information about individuals or groups planning to disrupt the peace through appropriate security channels.
