As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, Hon. Felix Uneojo Ikechi has paid tribute to the nation’s founding fathers, acknowledging their sacrifices and vision for a united and prosperous country.
In a goodwill message issued through his media office on October 1, Ikechi said the sacrifices and vision of the founding generation provided a foundation upon which successive generations must continue to build a stronger nation.
He said Independence Day should go beyond celebration, providing an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey and their responsibility towards protecting and advancing its future.

Ikechi noted that although the founding generation did not inherit a perfect nation, they accepted the responsibility of building a country with the potential to achieve greatness.
According to him, preserving their legacy requires more than remembering their contributions, but also demands deliberate efforts to uphold national values while addressing challenges that hinder the country’s progress.
He called for collective efforts towards national development, anchored on patriotism, responsible leadership, institutional integrity, justice, security and expanded economic opportunities.
Ikechi also urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to regard themselves as stakeholders in the Nigerian project and contribute actively to the country’s development rather than remain passive observers.
The former Anambra West council chairman said Nigeria’s vast human and natural resources could provide stronger foundations for prosperity if responsibly managed for the benefit of its citizens.
He congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the anniversary and called for renewed patriotism, unity and purposeful action towards building a Nigeria worthy of the sacrifices and aspirations of its founding generation.
