The permanent site of Shanahan University received a major boost as the Osanakpo family of Ndoni, Rivers State, fulfilled their pledge to donate a building to the institution, with construction work commencing immediately.

The event, marked by a solemn groundbreaking, blessing, and foundation-laying ceremony, was presided over by the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, who prayed over the site, sprinkled holy water, and blessed all present.

Leading the Osanakpo family was renowned Engineer, Knight of the Church, and philanthropist, Sir Ikem Osanakpo, alongside his brother, Sir Enebeli Osanakpo, their wives, Ladies Nonye and Veronica, as well as children, relatives, and friends.

Also present at the ceremony were the Vice Chancellor of Shanahan University, Rev. Fr. Josephat Obi Oguejiofor, members of the university’s board, and several priests.

Speaking during the event, Sir Ikem Osanakpo described the donation as the family’s modest contribution to the advancement of education within the Archdiocese and the nation at large.

He noted that the gesture was made in memory of their late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis and Catherine (Kate) Osanakpo, whose legacy of education continues to inspire the family.

“After thanking God, we thank our parents. Through the Louis and Catherine (Kate) Osanakpo Foundation, this is our humble support to the Archdiocese,” he said.

He further revealed the family’s long-standing connection with the Church, saying that they have been members of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, now Basilica, for over a century, with their grandparents having been married there in 1919.

Sir Osanakpo emphasized that the values instilled by their parents motivated the family to invest in education.

He urged other well-meaning individuals to support the growth of the university, stressing that investment in education remains a lasting legacy.

In his remarks, Archbishop Okeke commended the Osanakpo family for their generosity and consistent support for the Church and education.

He prayed for continued peace and progress for the family and encouraged other privileged individuals to emulate their example.

Among other dignitaries present were the Anambra State Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, who is also a member of the university’s board, and Engineer Sir Uche Ubajaka.

At the time of the ceremony, contractors had already mobilized to the site, with heavy equipment seen clearing the land, signaling the immediate commencement of construction work.
