The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), South East Zone, in collaboration with the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), has on July 22 intensified efforts to increase school enrolment through a sensitization and advocacy campaign across Anambra North, Anambra South and Anambra Central Senatorial Zones.
The campaign, themed “Enroll Your Child Now!”, is aimed at encouraging parents and guardians to ensure that every school-age child is enrolled in school, in line with the goal of achieving universal basic education.

Speaking during the campaign, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, said the exercise was organised to sensitise residents on the importance of education and promote increased school enrolment across the state.
Dr. Anyadiegwu commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for prioritising education, noting that Anambra has recorded the lowest rate of out-of-school children in Nigeria due to the administration’s education-friendly policies. She explained that the Governor’s free education policy from primary to secondary school has made education accessible to every child, irrespective of background or circumstances.

Dr. Anyadiegwu further stressed that the state’s inclusive education policy guarantees every child’s right to education, warning that any school-age child found hawking or staying at home during school hours, as well as the parent or guardian, would be held accountable in line with the state’s compulsory education policy.
Also speaking, the UBEC State Coordinator, Mr. Kingsley Nlewedim, said the federal government considers it necessary for parents, learners and members of the public to understand the importance of education.
He noted that the campaign was designed to highlight the numerous benefits of education, describing it as the greatest gift parents can give their children. According to him, many of the challenges confronting society today stem from the failure of some parents to send their children to school.
He added that education equips individuals with knowledge, wisdom and the skills needed to live productive lives, stressing that education is not a privilege but a fundamental right.
The event featured a colourful awareness rally involving learners, teachers and Officers-in-Charge of Local Government Education Authorities, who marched through major streets across the three senatorial zones carrying placards and chanting messages that encouraged parents and guardians to enrol their children in school.
