October 1 remains a significant date in Nigeria’s history as it marks the country’s attainment of independence and is commemorated annually across the nation.
The 2026 Independence Day celebration in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State coincided with the declaration of the two-year scorecard of the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
In his opening remarks, Anazodo highlighted some of the achievements recorded by his administration over the past two years, while reflecting on efforts to sustain peace and development in Nnewi.

The mayor also emphasised the importance of maintaining the peace that has returned to the area, urging Ndi Nnewi to continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting stability and progress.
He expressed optimism about the next phase of his administration, assuring Ndi Nnewi that his second tenure would build on the achievements recorded during his first two years in office.
The celebration featured a variety of activities, including a march-past by schools and organisations, cultural displays, music performances and other entertainment.

The cultural performances provided an opportunity for participants to showcase the traditions and heritage of Nnewi while joining other Nigerians in marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The event brought together residents, stakeholders, schools, organisations and other members of the community in an atmosphere of celebration and reflection on the progress recorded in the local government.

The celebration ended on a positive note, with Ndi Nnewi looking forward to the programmes and initiatives that Anazodo’s administration may introduce during the next two years of his tenure.
