The Anambra East Local Government Area(LGA) has recognized 29 schools that participated in the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, presenting certificates and incentives to encourage academic excellence and strengthen commitment among pupils and teachers.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony held on June 25 at the LGA secretariat, the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Malachy Akwueze, who represented the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring that every school age child in the area is enrolled in school through its ongoing “Back to School” campaign.

The event brought together headteachers and heads of participating schools, serving as an opportunity to appreciate their efforts in preparing pupils for the Children’s Day activities, including the match past and cultural displays that highlighted the talents and rich heritage of children across the LGA.

Hon. Akwueze noted that the mayor remains dedicated to promoting quality education, improving child welfare. According to him, reports from school administrators indicate that the “Back to School” sensitization programme has yielded positive results, with noticeable increases in school enrollment and stronger community participation in educational activities.

He addressed concerns about some posted teachers who have yet to report to their duty stations, urging headteachers to engage such teachers and encourage them to resume work promptly, while directing that unresolved cases be reported to the appropriate education authorities for necessary action in order to safeguard effective teaching and learning.

Responding on behalf of the schools, participants expressed gratitude to the local government for the recognition and support, describing the certificates and incentives as a morale booster for both staff and pupils.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Victoria Asiegbu, Head Teacher of Oche Primary School, Umueri, commended the LGA chairman for his commitment to educational development, saying the administration’s interventions demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of schools, appealing to residents of Anambra East to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at advancing education and community development.

The recognition programme forms part of the mayor’s broader efforts to strengthen the education sector, ensuring that every child in Anambra East has access to quality learning opportunities.
