The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, has commenced emergency intervention works at a developing gully erosion site along Prof. Gordian Ndubizu Omeiheukwu Drive, off Onwugbenu Street near Stella Maris Catholic Church, GRA, Onitsha.

The intervention began on June 24, following concerns raised by residents over the worsening erosion, which was threatening a culvert and adjoining sections of the road a critical access route for residents, worshippers, motorists, and visitors.

Speaking on the development, community members commended the Mayor for his prompt response, describing the action as a demonstration of responsive and people centred leadership.

“We reported the situation because of the danger it posed to road users, and we are pleased that work has already commenced,” a resident Mr.Tony Okeke said.

Officials at the site disclosed that the ongoing intervention is aimed at stabilizing the affected area, preventing further erosion, and safeguarding public infrastructure from possible collapse.

Residents noted that the swift action has helped avert what could have developed into a major environmental and safety challenge for the community.

“This is leadership that listens and acts. The speed of response has restored confidence among residents,” another community stakeholder Mr Joseph Aham stated.

The intervention has also been welcomed by supporters of Hon. Nwora, who described it as further evidence of his commitment to the welfare, safety, and development of the people of Onitsha North.
